What we think of the new Vega 100 UC USB Headset

Is this entry level USB headset a game changer?

Vega 100 UC USB Stereo Reviews

The Vega 100 UC USB Headset is a new product launched in 2020 as an entry level USB headset for small businesses. Available from just £26.50 + VAT from The Headset Store, this headset has the potential to be a game changer based on its cost alone but how does it perform?

The Vega 100 comes in both single ear (Monaural) and double ear (Stereo Binaural) providing headband options for different types of business customers. We were impressed with the overall design, especially with the very comfortable protein leatherette ear cushions that outperform some of the materials used on much more expensive headsets.

The USB controller is pretty basic with call answer, volume control and mute functions, however it does provide connectivity to both answer and disconnect calls from Microsoft Teams.  This is a nice touch and something missing for the majority of budget USB headsets.

Overall, the Vega 100 UC USB Headset feels well made and is comfortable to wear which is all that matters to most users who rely on their headset for long periods of time during the day. The headband adjustments were relatively good meaning you can size the headset depending on the size and shape of your head.

Sound Quality

The Vega 100 UC USB Headset offers good overall communication quality sound. We have tested this headset extensively within Microsoft Teams and via our own 3CX softphones and the sound quality has always been good with clear sound and relatively loud volume which can also be adjusted on the USB controller included on the cable.

This corded headset also includes noise-cancelling technology. When testing, the Vega 100 does a good job of blocking out all but the loudest background noise and whilst it does not provide the highest level of active noise cancellation at this price you wouldn’t expect it.

Like most budget headsets, the Vega 100 is at its worst when it is used for listening to music.  The headset is clearly built for speech quality and therefore does not offer true stereo sound which some users may want.  If you want to crank up the volume and listen to your favourite tracks whilst working then the Jabra Evolve2 40 Stereo would be a better choice.

What you get

You can opt for the Vega 100 UC USB Mono (single ear headband) or the Vega 100 UC USB Stereo (double ear headband). It comes nicely packaged in a nicely presented Vega Box which feels a little retro.

As a budget headset, the contents of the box are not very exciting.  The headset includes basic instructions but these are not really needed as the device is plug and play with windows 7 and windows 10 PC’s.

Final Verdict

For businesses looking for a solid UC headset that they can simply connect and forget the Vega 100 is always going to be a winner.  It works perfectly in all of the UC platforms we have tested it on and includes a couple of nice functions like the ability to answer and put down Microsoft Teams calls using the call answer button on the USB bottom cable.

If you want a headset for music we would recommend you to look elsewhere as this headset does not offer true stereo sound.  As a work device for communicating we give it the thumbs up, especially at this price.
