Choosing the Best Headsets for Microsoft Teams

With Microsoft Teams recently becoming the standout choice of UC platform for thousands of UK businesses we are often asked what we headsets we recommend for use with the popular software solution. We have complied our list of what we consider to be the best headsets for Microsoft Teams.

There are not all that many dedicated headsets for Microsoft Teams at the time of writing so we have put together our list of both corded and cordless headsets that are all certified for Microsoft Teams.  All of these headsets will work with all UC platforms but have been selected for their distinct compatibility and certification to work with Microsoft Teams.

1. Jabra Evolve2 65 Microsoft Teams Stereo

Released by Jabra in 2020, the Evolve2 65 Microsoft Teams edition is a welcome addition to our headset portfolio. This headset includes a dedicated Teams button on the headset itself allowing additional headset functionality to be used directly within Microsoft Teams.

Whilst not the cheapest headset on offer, this is a great choice for businesses that use Microsoft Teams.  You can read our extended review on the Jabra Evolve2 65 Microsoft Teams edition here.  The Evolve2 65 Cordless Bluetooth UC headset is available in a number of combinations; with and without a stand, USB-A dongle or USB-C dongle (as examples) which will ensure there is always a model to suit your needs.

2. Plantronics Voyager Focus UC B825-M

The Voyager Focus is a favorite in the office due to its slick design, comfortable wearing style and the active noise cancelling (ANC) feature. It sounds great and its hard to find any negatives to bring up when we talk about this model with our customers.

Starting from £150 exc VAT, its not the cheapest Cordless Bluetooth headset on the market but it does come with a rather good bluetooth dongle (USB-A) and can connect to your mobile phone simultaneously.  A recent firmware update also allows you to answer calls on Microsoft Teams directly from the headset so whilst it does not have a dedicated teams buton like the Jabra Evolve2 65 MS Teams, it functions well within the application.

3. Jabra Evolve2 40 Stereo Microsoft Team Edition

The Jabra Evolve2 40 Stereo is fast becoming the choice of corded USB headset for professional business with a slightly higher budget.  It offers fantastic sound via a USB-A or USB-C connection depending on the model you choose and its design is the best we have seen.

We were surprised that Jabra decided to drop the 3.5mm connectivity from this headset which was available on its predecessor but that is one of the only negatives we could find about this headset. If you opt for the MS version you will find a dedicated Teams button like you see on the Evolve2 65 which includes all of the same functions.

4. Plantronics Savi w8220-m

The Savi series headsets have recently been upgraded in the way of the w8220-m.  This is a Microsoft Teams certified headset that has “three in one” capability meaning you can connect it to your desk phone, PC and mobile phone concurrently straight out of the box.

For what this headset give you its very well priced and is perfect for any business users that use desk phones in the office whilst also having some kind of reliance on Microsoft Teams.  The headset is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and includes Active Noise Cancelling (ANC).

5. Jabra Evolve 20 MS Teams Stereo USB

The Jabra Evolve 20 Stereo is our best selling corded USB Headset and comes in with a price point that is difficult to ignore for regular users.  A recent firmware upgrade on the MS version of this headset also means that it is Microsoft Teams certified.  This means you can now auto answer an incoming Teams call via the answer function on the USB bottom cable.

Whilst there is no 3.5mm capability on the headset (it is wired straight through to a standard USB-A connector) the headset performs well and sound great when talking to colleagues or customers through Microsoft Teams or whilst listening to your favorite track on Youtube or through Spotify.

6. EPOS | Sennheiser SC 165 USB Headset

The EPOS | Sennheiser SC 165 is a USB headset with fantastic build quality and one that remains comfortable to wear for long periods of time.  It includes 3.5mm connectivity as standard on the USB bottom cable which makes it simple to switch between your PC and smartphone at any point.

As with some of the Jabra models, the Sennheiser SC 165 has recently seen a firmware update that brings the headset in line with the certification standards for Microsoft Teams.  This means you can use the call controls on the USB bottom cable to mute, answer and control the volume of calls via Teams.

7. Plantronics Blackwire 5220 USB Stereo

Whenever a customers asks me to recommend a USB headset it’s difficult for me to ignore the Plantronics Blackwire 5220 due to its striking design, fantastic quality quality and the built in 3.5mm connection. The headset is comfortable to wear, looks great and offers call control within Microsoft Teams.  There is not really much else you can ask for in a headset within this price bracket.

Poly have also managed to include hearing aid compatibility (HAC) within this headset, one of the very few USB models in the world to provide this. It is nearly always our headset of choice for users that wear hearing aids for this reason alone and its a big thumbs up to Poly for including this functionality.

8. EPOS | Sennheiser SC 75 Stereo USB Headset

The final headset on our list of recommended Microsoft Teams headsets is the EPOS | Sennheiser SC 75.  Again the headset carries the high build quality expected from any Sennheiser device but in particular this model oozes class with its fine design details making it stand out from the competition.

As far as sound quality goes, the SC 75 is first class.  We have extensively tested this model over the last few months in an active environment where it was used daily by our team.  The feedback from everybody was overwhelmingly positive as both sound quality and build quality are second to none.

The Sennheiser SC 75 has also  seen it’s firmware updated to provide call control on the USB bottom cable to mute, answer and control the volume of calls via Microsoft Teams.
